green learn button on motor.
changing from flashing remote mode 2 to solid remote mode 1-neither will learn.
erasing craftsman codes on motor (hold green learn for 6 seconds) does not allow for learning new remote.
is it possible that craftsman motor receiving unit is malfunctioning?

It is possible, but to make sure whether it is remote or receiver, maybe you can try purchase OEM remote to check.
If neither remote work, then it is highly possible the receiver is malfunctioning.
